Making Your Interior Photography More Valuable

By Ricardo Dillahunt

As a Singapore interior photographer, your job can be quite challenging but it also can have lucrative rewards as well. The terms interior and architectural photography are often used interchangeably and they both refer to the photography of a building's interior features. Equipped with a camera, your task is to capture the distinct features of a building and make them look great for your client.

Since interior photography involves working in an indoor space, there are specific equipment needed to ensure that you get the results you need. Ideally, you would need a wide-angle camera lens to capture as much area as possible with the limited space you have. Choosing a good light source is also critical to ensure that you end up with a good exposure and that the colors are accurately displayed.

By shooting indoors, you will most commonly be working with natural light and this might not always allow you to shoot using high shutter speeds, so therefore having a tripod is necessary to make sure that your images will be sharp while using low shutter speeds. You can also use reflectors to illuminate areas of the room that receive less light.

There may also be times that you will need to use flash or strobe lighting and it is ideal that you also use reflectors or umbrellas to tone down the harshness of the light. A Singapore interior photographer will usually use natural lighting as much as possible because it is easy to work with and it is not too harsh as compared to strobe lighting.

A good Singapore interior photographer should also be able to come up with great compositions with the room that is getting photographed. You should determine in advance the parts of the room that can be very interesting, especially when it is not possible to capture the room as a whole. You should also look for possible foreground and background objects that can improve the look of your photos.

Having a high level of creativity is also important for any Singapore interior photographer, especially when you are coming up with a composition. You may want to try out various angles and heights to see which one would produce the best results. You can also experiment shooting both landscape and portrait orientations for different points of view.

In taking photographs of people, it is not uncommon to prep up the person by getting some hair and makeup done, and the same can be done with architectural photography. The room to be photographed must be organized properly and be free of any clutter. Any unnecessary objects in the photo can be distracting and might cause it to have a distasteful look.

A good Singapore interior photographer should be able to come up with unique ways to capture the personality and character of a particular room. All photos are supposed to tell a story and interiors are no different. You can always look for interesting patterns or details that will help bring out the true beauty of it.
