Learning About Sault Ste. Marie

Sault Ste. Marie is not just one town but two. This unique and interesting location is actually two communities of the same name, one on the United States side of the river and the other on the Canadian side. An international bridge connects the towns and is a fully manned border crossing. Visitors from either side should be ready with their passports if they wish to cross the border and visit both countries.

The navigable waterway has always been attractive as a good place to settle. For many hundreds of years people have settled in the area because of the abundance of fish. The fast flowing waters are a perfect breeding ground for many forms of aquatic life and even today the river provides employment for many residents as well as leisure events for everyone.

In today's busy commercial world there are some excellent employment opportunities. Many young professionals are moving in. They are drawn by the chance to own their own home, enjoy a great lifestyle and spend time outdoors all year round. The winters are cold and snowy, but still offer many sports activities to those who are looking to have fun and stay fit.

As the children get older there are some excellent schools. Most families choose their home with a school district in mind. They will have plenty of excellent options which will meet the need of any child. In addition, they will be able to take advantage of many leisure facilities such as sports, drama and the arts.

The river runs between the towns and is not just their border, but an international border. Since people first settled in the area they have been earning their living from the rich bounty of the river waters. Even today many people still run commercial fishing charters in the summer. These are a great way to spend some free time and get together with friends. The boats can accommodate anywhere between five and twenty five people depending on the size of the party. All tackle can also be provided for those who do not own their own.

After a great day of fishing many people like to head into town to try one of the many excellent restaurants. There are a full range of eateries that serve every type of food. Those looking for a traditional steak dinner will not be disappointed. Yet the more adventurous eater will also have plenty of outstanding choices.

Eating out is a treat for the entire family. There are so many outstanding restaurants to choose from. These range from casual dining places that are open from breakfast to dinner, serving all the time honoured favorites. Those looking for something more up scale will not be disappointed either. There are some really great places serving delicious meals using home grown local produce.

No matter weather they are visiting for a few days, or staying for a lifetime there is plenty to do and see in the Sault Ste. Marie area. The warm summers and snowy winters make this a true sporting paradise. Activities such as fishing on the river provides a great day out for the entire family.
