Cajun Restaurants Avon By The Sea

By Jennifer Bell

Southern State cooking and meals are something that are seen as unique and adventurous to some gourmands and foodies. Most are intrigued by the French and Cajun style dishes that are getting quite a lot of airtime on television and cable lately. When doing a google search for Cajun restaurants Avon By The Sea, you will get quite a few and respectable number of hits and results.

Before perusing your search results, you should know the difference between what is Cajun and Creole food. This is because many a Louisiana dweller or New Orleans citizen will cringe when people use these two words interchangeably. In effect, Creole cooking or fare is something that incorporates a variety of complex sauces with recipes coming from aristocratic old Europe, whilst Cajun fare, the one you are after, are dishes that have been invented using the ingredients found in the Louisiana bayous and marshes.

Many of the restaurants that you will get from the internet via your search will have non French or non Creole Cajun sounding names. One of them in fact may even be a German restaurant which serves only a little of this kind of food, being really a mix bistro that sells a lot of things. Do not judge a book by its cover when it comes to names, but rather read the menu.

One of the main dishes of this kind of fare will be gumbo. A rich dish with a stew like consistency. Many will say that this is a signature or flagship dish of Louisiana fare, just as many will say that the hot dog represents the very heart of America. No self respecting New Orleans person will ever leave out gumbo from the menu. A general thing to look out for is the roux, or soup base of the gumbo, for the muddier it looks, the more authentic and yummier it is.

Be on the lookout also for exotic and strange dishes and fare that will usually include some wild game like deer and rabbit. Add to this list also some native favorites like alligator meat and frog legs, which can be sold fried, stewed, baked and broiled. Likewise also look at the ingredients used, for authentic dishes will use a fair amount of cayenne pepper, a Cajun favorite.

Apart from looking at the menus online, try to look in forums and ask the local Louisiana community, if there is one, where one would go to find the real deal. Asking a local is always the best sometimes when looking for something authentic and worthwhile.

Should you somehow find a place that is not covered online or existing in an review columns, then do visit it and gauge its genuine character by using a checklist using the elements found in this article. Who knows you may become an expert on this or other establishments that have not yet been reported online.

Now that you have the way of separating the good from the bad in terms of these dishes, do go forth and explore and enjoy. And let everyone know about your adventure in Avon By The Sea.
