Desserts Of Official Recognition From The 50 States

Do you know that some states have special official food or dessert, just like how every state can have their official flag, animal and motto? Some of the sweet treats being referred here that are loved by individuals living in some of these states can be uncovered if you read on.

For instance, it probably wouldn't surprise you to learn that the State Pie of Florida is the Key lime pie. This tart, meringue-topped dessert is made using key limes, which are found throughout the famous Florida Keys. Floridians have been making this pie since the late 1800s, but was not officially named the state pie until 2006.

There are other states with official pies as well. Maine for instance has the blueberry pie as theirs because of the fact that their state fruit is blueberry. This particular state's official treat is known as the Whoopie Pie. With a record of 1,000 pounds in weight, the biggest Whoopie Pie was created in Maine. In Massachusetts on the other hand, the Boston Cream Pie which is actually layers of sponge cake separated by vanilla custard, topped with chocolate glaze, is their official state pie. Also, Massachusetts pride of a state cookie in the form of the chocolate chip cookie.

Other states enjoy other sweet treats. In Minnesota, the blueberry muffin has been named as the state's official muffin. New Mexico's state cookie is a unique treat called the bizcochito and is flavored with cinnamon and anise. Utah doesn't have an official dessert, but named Jell-O as its state snack food. Missouri's official state dessert is the ice cream cone, which became quite popular after the St. Louis World Fair in 1904.

If you think that because California has no official food or dessert the citizens of the Golden State no longer love delicious treats - you are so wrong. Los Angeles is home the famed Culver City ice cream shop, YoKuMon with all its ice cream treats and other sweets.
