Caffeine & The Craze Looked At By Gabriel Pediatrics

By Rob Sutter

It seems like just about everyone cannot get by without their coffee and it's clear as to why. With lives being as busy as they've ever been before, people need that little something else that can keep them going and everything from black coffee to mochas seem to do the trick. However, more and more it appears that younger people have been taking part in this. Are there dangers to this, though, or is it something that should simply be accepted without a second thought? Gabriel Pediatrics can weigh in

According to an article on WBUR, more and more younger people are starting to take in these beverages than they have ever done before. In fact, it's been said that those who are between the ages of 17 and 18 are taking in caffeinated beverages twice as much as they did a decade or so ago. I think that there are a number of concerns to take into account with this. For one, the fact that three fourths of children in the country are consuming coffee on a daily basis should be concerning enough.

Of course, it is worth noting that children have the chance to be exposed to caffeine at earlier times than others. Keep in mind that soda and chocolate milk stand as just a couple of products that stand as favorites amongst smaller children and, as you can imagine, contain caffeine to different degrees. This is why it is up to parents to regulate just how much is given from day to day. Teenagers do not have that same level of regulation in place, though, which is where more coffee consumption is seen.

Keep in mind that the idea of teenagers consuming caffeine is not all bad, as Gabriel Pediatrics will be able to attest to. I think that teenagers have to be mindful of the amount of caffeine that they take in from day to day and I believe that they have enough of a level of awareness to understand where their limits lie. Teenagers can gauge this better than children, as names the likes of Gabriel can agree with. It's just a matter of making sure that caffeine usage is monitored as much as possible.

In fact, the idea of individuals becoming so hooked on caffeine that they cannot stop drinking it is a little hard to believe. A mocha now and again is fine but are individuals honestly going to consume one every single day without a break or two within the week? I do not think that this is the case and, eventually, people are going to get tired. If there is a chance that they do not grow bored of this, though, that is where a greater focus on moderation has to be seen.
